During the sixteenth century, Francesco I de Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, was able to reproduce in Europe the fineness of precious Chinese porcelain, which composition was still unknown in the continent. In 1577, in fact, he founded in Florence a specialized factory in the production of a pseudo-porcelain designated for court purposes, which became known as the “porcelain of Medici“. This particular type of majolica – a hybrid of soft porcelain and hard porcelain – made Florence the cradle of European ceramics and captured the attention of the Marquis Carlo Ginori, who in the thirties of the eighteen century opened in Sesto Fiorentino, in Doccia’s area, a porcelain factory which is still active and famous for the craftsmanship and elegance of its products.
Today, Sesto Fiorentino is still the productive heart of porcelain of Doccia, and it is right here, a few kilometers far from Florence, that ITC Decalcomanie designs and manufactures decals onto porcelain, ceramics, glass, wood, stainless steel, plastics, polyester and many other materials.
